It always sounds so lazy when someone comes up with “I always had the dream to. Yet it is characteristic of who I am. Always headstrong and very much the need to make my own choices. To be independent. And the older I get, the better I am at that.
- It seems very romantic when you have a dream to become an entrepreneur.
- Doing your own thing, freedom, financial independence.
- But those are perhaps the most difficult points for me as an entrepreneur.
- Because there you are. Just closed the door of your old job for the last time,
- with a book full of memories and encouraging words. But without a salary and any form of security.
Give up privileges
I am a typical woman who loves to work, has ambition and absolutely never lets all the “being a woman” prejudices hold me back. To be honest, I don’t experience them that way either. I don’t see them and so it doesn’t hold me back. But with the ambition for my own company I really had to put a number of things aside. A salary (and therefore dependent on my husband), working hours and also with that also a certain freedom. Because we really can’t afford those three days of childcare that we used to take. In short, compromise and make full use of all the hours that are available.
Balancing
The first year of my own business I was mainly busy getting used to all those new dimensions. Because you not only have the ambition to set up something beautiful and successful, you are also completely out of your comfort zone because almost everything has changed. Now that the first successes are visible, I am slowly getting those old certainties back (yeah!!). I will soon be allowed to get a small salary from my company and our daughters will go to daycare more often after the summer.
Next level
As we speak I have just made a proposal for a rental property (update: and signed in the meantime!). An inspiring workplace with space for storage and a beautiful showroom. How cool is it that with hard work these kinds of rewards are also waiting for you?
